ABOUT THE AUTHOR: ROBERTA SERET, Ph.D.

Roberta Seret holds a doctorate in Comparative Literature and Masters in French from New York University.

  • Ms. Seret is President and Founder of the NGO at the United Nations, 2003-present, International Cinema Education. www.internationalcinemaeducation.org.
  • She is Director of Advanced English and Film at the United Nations for the Hospitality Committee where she teaches English language, world affairs and film to diplomats. (2001-present)
  • She has created and implemented at the United Nations, the International Film Festival for High School Students. (2001-present) This program has been supported by a 5-year Ford Foundation grant, and grants from Morgan Stanley, UBS, the Japanese Mission, Moody’s, Sanford Bernstein, The Chickasaw and Cherokee Indian Nations, and others. More than 15,000 students from 100+ New York and Connecticut high schools have been invited free to this program.
  • In 2006-2007, she introduced a new course at the United Nations for New York’s high school students, “Filmmaking for Young Peacemakers.” She partnered with New York University’s Tisch Film School and the United Nations.
  • In 2008, she introduced a program in New York City’s high schools, “Global Voices Through Film.” By using foreign film as the medium, she has created a multi-disciplinary curriculum to teach students about global events. She partners with the United Nations.
  • In 2012-present, she created Filmedsⓒ, a digital online video series that teaches students about global hotspots. This project has been funded by a Ford Foundation grant to create and implement Filmedsⓒ into New York City schools and complements her book, World Affairs in Foreign Films for middle school, high school and college students as curriculum.
  • In 2015-present, the United Nations and the Department of Public Information, made accessible to Dr. Seret a briefing room for her “Global Classroom” where she screens foreign films, Filmedsⓒ and offers briefings to students of all ages.
  • In 2019-present, she has returned to her Alma Mater, New York University, to teach a graduate course, “Global Hotspots in Foreign Films.” She also invites students to film screenings and briefings at the United Nations and Foreign Missions.
