A. PERSONAL VOICE – LETTER WRITING:
- In Gift of Diamonds, Mica writes several letters to Nurse Bartha as a way of condensing time and giving the reader a picture of Mica’s life in New York .
- This style of literature, “epistolary style,” is a personal expression of the heart.
B. PERSONAL VOICE – DIARY:
- When Mica is working in the American Embassy, Mr. Bridge allows her access to his library. She finds there, The Diary of Anne Frank, and thus begins her obsessive identification to the Dutch girl in hiding.
C. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SURVIVE?
- One of the main themes of Gift of Diamonds is the question what does it take to survive? Mica’s quest and voyage is the story of her survival.
